Current Research Area:

Carbon Nanotubes as a Diagnostic/Therapeutic tool against Breast Cancer

Breast Cancer has been identified as the second most common type of malignant tumor in adult woman.A holy grail in cancer therapy is to deliver high doses of drug molecules to tumor sites for maximum treatment efficacy while minimizing side effects to normal organs. Chemically functionalized Single walled nanotubes (SWNT), have shown promise against tumor accumulations and have been sought for potential application such as bio-compatibility, physiochemical properties, excretion and little toxicity. Cancer nano-therapeutics is rapidly progressing and is being implemented to solve several limitations of conventional drug delivery systems for more effective yet safer nano therapeutic options for cancer therapy.

The aim of my work is to device a novel SWNT based drug delivery system against breast cancer cells consisting of a cytotoxic drug warhead with tumor targeting modules and possible use of thermal therapy/imaging as a complimentary combination therapy
